Underground Railroad: We will read The House of Dies Drear in reading class. To cover background information, we talk about the underground railroad and how it had an impact on history. The students will be using my PortaPortal to look at websites and find 10 facts they learned about the underground railroad. The students will also watch a video online. While doing these two activities, the students will take turns viewing the VoiceThread. The students will see pictures and cartoons from that time frame. I would have them analyze what they thought was depicted in the pictures. I would also have them leave their personal feelings about the pictures and what impact the pictures have on them. Since students don't always like to share when people are "watching," this would be a good way for students to share their ideas.
